Annual Reunion 2005 - Saturday 18th June 2005
READ THE REPORT FROM OUR SOCIAL SECRETARY DEREK PEARCE (PDF file format)
- The Place - Beaumont School on the old Reedham School site
A wonderful day by all the feedback we've received, and a record attendance, in short a friendly and busy day!
A warm welcome awaited all old scholars and friends, both young and old. Renewed old friendships and reminiscences. This was the one event not to be missed. So many made the effort to come along - they had to send for more food! A Brass Band, the Lottery, Rounders, loads of new pictures and documents scanned (many future items for publication), "Stuart's Raffle", and a chance to visit the Reedham museum where many old scholars memories are stored away.
See the Brass Band Play the School Song!
An idea has been put forward (see Rosabeam page 42) that along with the many events taking place to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, we might have a stand about the War years and life at Reedham in the 1940's. Maybe we could have this theme running through the reunion day in 2005. Maybe you have an idea or a story to tell? Please let our Secretary know.

Isle of Wight - Saturday 20th September 2003 - Flyer Here Super day by all accounts - Report:

For this year’s trip we visited Gunard, near Cowes and enjoyed a first-rate lunch at The Woodvale. The venue was ideal, with our own dinning room and bar, plus a large balcony overlooking the estuary. With the weather just perfect, what better place to enjoy a pre lunch drink and then coffee to finish with. The staff were extremely friendly and it emerged that Mike Mockford in fact knew one of them; I’ll let Mike pick up the story; When we went upstairs for lunch, the waitress asked me what the reunion was all about. Although not a Reedham man myself, I felt sufficiently qualified after all these years of "Camp Following" to explain that it was an Old School Reunion. This response brought an immediate question - where in the IoW was the school. Surrey, I explained, adding that I was probably the only person present that had actually attended school in the Isle of Wight. "Were you born here?”, she asked. "No", I said "Southampton". "Where?", she asked. This line of questioning and answers quickly led to the discovery that we had lived only 2 doors away from each other in 1940 and that our families had been close friends.
In fact, her house had been straddled by my family's house and that of my Uncle Bill's just 4 doors up the road.
Her family, her Father mainly, had known both my brother and our parents and ditto for my Uncle Bill's family. It's a very small world. Her name was Sheila Mew, a family well known in the Isle of Wight. Indeed, the Island Brewers, Mew and Langton seem to bear the family name. We were all sadly reminded, that of course Jim Neal was no longer with us and our thoughts were with Joan, who had understandable declined our invitation. The venue was considered to be well worth a return visit by those in attendance and the Committee have decided to re-book The Woodvale for next year. Accommodation is available for those wishing to combine a mini break on the Island, for which we have been able to secure a preferential rate. The date will be Saturday 18th September. Watch out for details. Many of our regular attendees were unable to make it this year and unfortunately three of our number had to pull out at the last minute. However those who made it included:- George and Denise Kanetti, Diana and Alan Stoner, Shirley and Mike Mockford, Bob and Monica Eastabrook, Terry and Ann Anderson, Linda Lestourgeon, Paul Cotton and Joan Burridge.

Littlehampton - Saturday 13th September We rekindled the spirit of the outing most looked forward to in the Reedham annual calendar! A perfect day in many ways - The weather was perfect, the Fish and Chips were the best local take away eaten on the grass by the boating lake, the fairground was sampled a few times (no uncles providing vouchers though), Crazy golf, and an hour long trip up the river with tea and cakes, finishing off with a sample from the local pub. Wow - roll on next year! CLICK HERE for the original flyer CLICK HERE FOR SOME OTHER PICTURES and here is the full report:
LITTLEHAMPTON REVISITED - THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY
Shock Horror. “The train driver has done a runner” quoted the rather nice man in the café.
The disappointment on every one’s faces when the news broke that the train we all loved so much was not on the tracks, all due to a runaway driver, was soon put to one side as the sun shone and we finished our teas and buckets of chips and headed for the amusements. Every year for as long as anyone would care to remember we would travel in those old coaches, and arrive at the Littlehampton shores and go wild, all courtesy of the Guild of the 19 Lubricators.
This is the story of the First Littlehampton Revisited Trip –13th September 2003.
Ernie Rayner, our driver and coordinator, started the historic outing from the Old Lodge with an enthusiastic bunch of party makers and made it to Littlehampton, after a few little toilet stops, in what appeared to be a record run time.
Of course, the drive up the hill at Reedham slowed us down a bit, but we had to visit the steps that every new boy and girl had at some time climbed up to arrive at the Main Entrance Hall.
More Old Scholars, having made their own way there, joined us in the seafront car park. Lindsey Trotter brought along an album with many old school photographs, some never seen before in public, and some she didn’t want to show!
We discovered Sean Matthews, in a rather fetching Bakers Outfit, and Mick Hogan both in the line up of an old Dick Whittington Play. Great news, as both were on the outing. Once we were all assembled and the bodies counted (as you do) the Reedham Old Scholars headed for the fun, but first they had to eat.

What else but a picnic on the grass banks overlooking the boating lake? Paul Cotton was lucky enough to have had his hat on as the seagulls took flight. “The best fish and chips ever” was everyone’s opinion.
Then up and onwards as the fun continued - on to the river, taking a cruise to discover Arundel and something about bird watching.
More tea and cakes were served onboard by the charming crew as we eased our way up the delightful river finally sighting Arundel Cathedral.
The time had come to test the Old Scholars resolve. With stomachs full, there was a rush for the bumper cars and battle commenced. Then the giant slide and Hazel volunteered to remain at the bottom of this and take the photographs.
Wonder why? George and David raced down like a pair of demented schoolboys.
Mind you so did every one else. Now the real test!
The Waltza, never have I seen so many white/green faces or heard so many painful screams and cries of “stop this I wannna get off”. After a few more bumper car rides everyone had seen enough, especially when Dave and Hazel gave a display of ballroom bumper car dancing! That’s when the ‘golf bug’ kicked in.
Straight on to the rather tricky 9-hole course overlooking the shore of the English Channel. With the sun setting over the sea the teams were soon divided up and John’s team was first to tee off.
After a cracking display of putting abilities, the prize money was finally shared between three deserving winners.
The ladies put up a brave performance and I think next year they might have to be handicapped as it was far too close a call. With the light fading and no time for a play off - what could we do but get to the 19th hole (or the 10th in this case) as fast as possible.
Exhausted by so much fun we rested a while and sampled the local ales vowing that we would all return next year. Especially as the Council have vowed to find a new Casey Jones to drive the train. “I’m sure if they asked Ernie he would oblige!”
Those attending included:- Ernie & Ros Rayner, George & Denise Kanetti, John & Maureen Jones along with their 2 boys Jonathon & Matthew, Sean Matthews, Mike Hogan, Dave & Hazel Cox along with their son Christopher, Paul Cotton & Linda Lestourgeon, Lindsey & Andrew Trotter.
Annual Reunion - Saturday 21st June 2003
- Following the very successful reunions of the last couple of years, the Beaumont School was booked again. In the grounds of the former Reedham School, evoking memories of everything from the kitchen gardens to the cricket pitch and of course the nearby Lodge and museum.
The venue offered space and flexibility for ball games - "rounders" especially, and a good base for a chin wag, the AGM, and a meal. The caterers were a repeat feature too, after the appreciation received last year. It was great to see everyone, old and young, near and far, new and 'long lost'... SEE some pictures
This year also marked the retirement from the committee of some key players in the association.
THE REEDHAM TRUST GOLF TOURNAMENT, 18th June 2003 - Teams of 3 are invited to play an afternoon Stapleford Competition followed by Prizegiving and Dinner. Entry fee is £65 which includes green fees, refreshments at registration and 3 course dinner with wine at Croham Hurst Golf Club, Croham Road, South Croydon. For further details please contact Pam Peters - Tel: 020 8667 9201 or E-mail: pampeters66@hotmail.com (Report Awaited)
Golf Day - 5th April 2003 -
The original flyer is still available to view. It is a WORD document, the Flyer can be opened by CLICKING HERE
REPORT:
It was a lovely Spring day, on which to hold our first ROSA Golf Day, at the Burgess Hill Golf Centre.
There were 2 competitions running, one for those playing the 9-hole, par 3 course and another for those on the putting green (which became a north vs. south affair). The main course had lots of variety, and water! The standard of competition was high and close, with Paul Airey coming out just on top in the main competition and the north narrowly beating the south on the putting green.
14 of us then sat down in the restaurant to an exceptional lunch. This was a very enjoyable day and it was agreed to do this again next year (provisional date is 17th April – watch for details).
Many thanks and our congratulations to Ann Welby for arranging such a successful event.
Ann did such a good job that we asked her if she would arrange the next golf event, which she has gladly agreed to do.
We’ll all be getting in some more practice before the next event Paul, so watch out next year.
Those attending included:- George and John Kanetti, Chris Clarke, Anne Parry, Chris Montriou, Ann Welby, John Parkes, Paul Airey, Pam and Tony Miller, Peter and Merle Lord, Mike and Mary Peterson.
Isle of Wight Mini Reunion Saturday 21st September 2002 - Report (CLICK to See Flyer )
This year arrangements had been made for us to lunch in the heart of Shanklin village at the Cottage Restaurant. The event organisation had been somewhat fraught by sickness and a change of proprietor but all turned out fine in the end. Many of those attending had decided to take a short break on the island to include the reunion lunch. So it was that, in holiday spirit and wonderful weather, 22 of us gathered at the Cottage Restaurant at 12.30pm. for aperitifs and a chat with old friends before sitting down to our three course lunch, superbly cooked and presented by the proprietor and her staff. We were also able to celebrate a wedding anniversary and a birthday and to remember those unable to attend because of illness.
After the excesses of lunch, and with only a short recovery time, most of our number then repaired to Diana Stoner's bungalow, at her very generous invitation, for tea and cake all prepared by her own skilled hand. A really wonderful and much appreciated end to a splendid day.
We look forward to next year when we will gather once more on Sat. 20th. Sept. 2003 at a place yet to be decided. Watch out for details.
Those in attendance were :- George & Denise Kanetti, Colin Rowe, Eileen & Frank Jewel, Diana Stoner, Alan and Peter & Mrs.Latham, Shirley & Mike Mockford, Jim & Joan Neal, Dave & Brenda Connor, Mike & Mary Paterson, Tony & Pam Miller, Brenda Loasby and Merle & Peter Lord.
Reunion 2002 - 15th June 2002
A great turn out on Saturday 15th June, and the weather was perfect.
A very good turn out to the Beaumont School premises, the (now) annual rounders match took place, the weather was perfect, and a great time was had by all. The outside catering was the best to date, and Mary did a superb job with home-made goodies for everyone before and after. Special thanks to her for her untiring efforts!

ISLE OF WIGHT VISIT SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER
The ROSA Lunch went very well (I believe). Not however without some trepidation on my part beforehand. I had to do a dummy run from Ryde pier- head to Godshill to test my taxi service skills out before the day. I need not have worried, everybody arrived on time and assistance was available from Colin (Rowe) and Mike (Peterson) with their cars. All twenty of us were comfortably seated for lunch, in the Cask and Taveners, by 1pm. The food, ambience and company were all excellent and mine hostess very obliging. Our thanks to Colin (Rowe) and Jim (Neal) for finding the venue and making the arrangements. Members of the party were of the opinion that Godshill was a delightful and attractive location for the event with plenty to do before and after lunch. Over coffee Brian (Hord) gave an accomplished vote of thanks to those involved with the arrangements which was generously supported by all present. After lunch we were all invited, by the delightful Diane (Stoner) and her partner Alan (King), to her bungalow in Shanklin for tea and cake (home made). We all gathered in the garden there to enjoy the tea cake and more chat. It really was a splendid end to a Spring like day. The foot passengers were returned to Ryde pier for the 6pm ferry. Those who attended were :- Derrick and Janet Smith, Diana Stoner and Alan King, Noel and Pam Hoath, Bob and Monica Eastabrook, Brian Hord, Jim and Joan Neal, Colin and Kathleen Rowe, Mike and Mary Paterson, Brenda Loasby, Peter and Merle Lord, Eileen and Frank Jewell.

BLUEBELL RAILWAY - SHEFFIELD PARK, SUSSEX - 6th May 2001
Back to top of page
Some twenty ROSA members and friends met up at Sheffield Park station on Sunday, 6th May for a visit to the Bluebell Railway. This event was planned to take place in early May in order to enjoy the delight of the bluebells in full bloom in the woods through which the trains pass. The day had been carefully arranged by R.O.S.A member, George Jones, a well-known railway ‘aficionado’, certainly to his peers at Reedham in the late 1940’s. Being a pleasant day, a number of our group took advantage of the picnic facilities close by, whilst others relied on the hot lunch on offer at the ‘Bessamer Arms’ in the station. By 1.50 pm we were all seated in the extremely well preserved observation car, which had been specially booked for the Reedham party by George so that we could be ready for the return trip on the full extent extent of the line to Kingscote. The party included a number of children most of whom seemed to be overawed by the large steam engines, which included a large ‘West Country’ pacific locomotive.
As a long-serving volunteer, George has graduated to driving steam locomotives on the Bluebell Railway and also uses his talents in the important carriage restoration section. George provided our group with a personal tour of the Bluebell Railway carriage works at Horsted Keynes, which has established a very high reputation in this sphere. The day, which also included a tour of the engine sheds, was very enjoyable and clearly heightened by the valuable assistance by George, to whom we owe a big debt of gratitude.

Met at the Boat Inn Stoke Bruerne, Northamptonshire
Report on the day
From: "lordpcmr" <lordpcmr@supanet.com> 11/06/2001
The location was chosen for its canal side restaurant, waterways museum, towpath walks and narrowboat trips. However, they were limited on the day to the restaurant and museum due to the foot and mouth epidemic. These things are beyond our control and in true Reedham spirit we had a hugely enjoyable time. Some members renewed acquaintance after many years. A splendid lunch was enjoyed by 19 Old Scholars, wives and partners, overlooking the canal and lock, and went on into late afternoon with all the stories there were to tell and re-tell. Those in attendance were:- Shirley & Mike Mockford, Peter & Mrs.Latham, Brian & Christine Hord, Mike & Mary Paterson, Noel & Pam Hoath, Mike & Sallie Murdoch, Tony & Pam Miller, Brenda & Peter Loasby, Cliff Saunders, Peter & Merle Lord. Everyone was asking when the next Mini Reunion Lunch was to be. WELL ITS ON 22nd.SEPTEMBER 2001 ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT - SEE YOU THERE.
